The City Council approved a change to the 2025 part-time and seasonal pay scale that raises the starting wage for landfill and recycling attendants to $17 per hour effective immediately.
Council members said the current starting wage at the rural landfill site was $13.46 an hour and that nearby communities are paying more for comparable seasonal work. The council discussed that the $17 starting wage would increase over a four-year timeline to about $18.70 per hour.
The council said the change would apply to the recycling center and landfill positions (three total seasonal positions referenced) and that two current employees would receive the immediate increase. Council members noted they have not had new applicants at the lower rate and approved the increase to remain competitive.
Separately, the council discussed a pool manager application requesting a higher wage; members said they would address the pool manager hire and exact wage at a future meeting.
