Mayor Katherine Chacon Miller used her report to give residents tax‑filing information, update the public on a proposed local housing project for adults with autism and promote upcoming community events.
She said there were six more days to file city income tax and reminded residents they can use the free online tax filing system or visit the tax office for free preparation. The tax office has begun offering recurring monthly credit‑card payments; residents on payment plans can enroll by contacting the tax office at 330‑755‑2181, extension 127.
The mayor announced that the first local “Dillon’s House” will be built on a lot on Judith Lane in Struthers. She described Dillon’s House as a model — used elsewhere in the county and country — intended to allow adults with autism to live independently with around‑the‑clock care. The mayor said more information about Dillon’s House and its construction will be provided at a later date. She also noted a fundraiser tied to the project: the third annual Sunday Funday benefiting autism acceptance will be held at Penguin City Brewing Company on Sunday, April 13, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.; tickets are available at the door.
The mayor closed with community reminders: a city Easter egg hunt is scheduled Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the high school (moved indoors to the field house in case of bad weather) with Councilwoman Pingley in charge; Maple Crest will hold a follow‑up hunt starting at 1 p.m., with the hunt itself at 1:30 p.m. The council confirmed committee meeting schedules for April 16 (Community Development meeting focused on city beautification at 6:00 p.m.; Finance and Legislation to follow).
Ending The mayor asked residents to use the tax office resources before the deadline and noted that further details on Dillon’s House will be shared with council and the public as the project develops.
