Rockcastle High updates course guide and puts pathways on district website and app

Adena (last name not provided), Rockcastle County High School staff, demonstrated a redesigned high school course guide the guidance team built for the district website and mobile app.

Adena said the previous course guide was a 72‑page printable document that many parents found difficult to navigate. The new design breaks the guide into pathway‑specific pages and links, provides scheduling forms, course descriptions and contact information for pathway leads. “Everything can be found in about two‑three clicks,” Adena said during the board meeting.

The course guide includes pathway pages for teaching and learning, engineering, ROTC and other options; each pathway page contains photos, course sequences and staff contact details so employers and families can see coursework that aligns with workplace‑learning opportunities. The district also linked the local ATC (Area Technology Center) site and pathway information into the guide.

Adena said the district added direct access from the Rockcastle County Schools app so students and parents can reach the guide quickly on phones. Staff described plans to use the same format to revamp a senior hub and make scholarship and scheduling resources accessible for students and families.

Board members who spoke praised the redesign as more user friendly than the previous scanned document. No formal board action was taken on the course guide demonstration during the meeting; it was presented as information and a tool to help scheduling, family engagement and work‑based learning coordination.
