TAUNTON, Mass. โ The Taunton City Elections Commission heard an update Tuesday that the Massachusetts House scheduled a special state primary for Tuesday, May 13, 2025, and a special state election for Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
Elections Director Marc Pacheco told the commission there is one week from the meeting date to pull and return nomination papers; the papers are due April 1 at 5 p.m. in the elections office. "So far, we've had two people pull papers, and no one has returned yet," Pacheco said, and he identified the two people from memory as Christopher Coit and Lisa Fields.
Pacheco said a candidate for state representative must collect 50 signatures and must have lived in the district for one year prior to pulling papers. He noted the special election does not cover the entire City of Taunton: it affects Ward 1A and 1B (the transcript records a sub-precinct entry as well) and parts of other wards and nearby Easton that fall inside the state house district.
The elections office is advertising the special election on the City of Taunton website, social media, and electronic signs. Nomination papers are available at the Taunton elections office, the Secretary of the Commonwealth's office in Boston, and in Easton.
The commission had no substantive change to its schedule related to early voting and did not record additional directions beyond the reminder about the April 1 filing deadline.
