City of Newberry code enforcement staff reported that the structure at the property identified as belonging to Blair Ayers and Gibbs has deteriorated further since a March inspection and remains a dangerous building.
Staff said they had pulled a demolition permit and scheduled Florence Recycling to perform the demolition in April. The staff member said the family was aware of the plan and that the city would work with them after the teardown; the city also expects to recover demolition costs by placing a lien against the property.
"I have pulled a demolition permit for the structure, and I have Florence Recycling scheduled for the tear down, the demolition for April," code enforcement staff said, adding that the city will work with the family and put a lien for the cost and try to rectify that lien afterward.
The hearing officer found the property to be in continuing violation. As with other cases, the officer noted that fines had been assessed per the previous order and that any recorded fines could become liens the city could use to recover costs. The officer set a follow-up hearing date for May 2025 at 9 a.m.
