Staff updated the commission on planning for summer events, sponsorship outreach and early commitments.
Amy Parks and Ed (Newcastle Arts Council liaison) reported that the summer concert series schedule has been finalized and that summer camp and recreation programming have opened for enrollment. Staff said four concerts at Lakebourne Park are planned with headline dates in July and August and that the July 4 celebration and Newcastle Days will also be part of the sponsorship program.
Ed summarized the sponsorship outreach process: staff used last year’s sponsor list, targeted local businesses and split the outreach among commissioners and staff. He said the commission has added “add‑on” sponsor opportunities — for example, sponsor‑specific presentation time at concerts — to increase value for local businesses.
Commissioners were told that sponsorship outreach produced early financial commitments: staff reported $15,000 committed from Waste Management and about $24,000 in total commitments within the first days of active outreach. Sponsorship tiers (platinum, gold, silver, bronze) will have differing access to event spaces and promotional opportunities; staff also said they will accept in‑kind contributions (gift cards or coupons) in lieu of cash.
Commissioners agreed to provide contact names and review sponsor packets; staff said they will bring updates to future meetings and coordinate tabling at the city’s upcoming town hall.
