The commissioners adopted a resolution proclaiming April 2025 as Safe Digging Month in Nueces County and urged homeowners, contractors and residents to use the national 811 service before digging.
The resolution recognized the Nueces County–City of Corpus Christi Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and the Gulf Coast Damage Prevention Council for promoting safe excavation practices and cited the risks of not notifying 811 — service interruptions, environmental damage and personal injury. County staff and LEPC members in the room noted the work of local partners including the city gas department and pipeline industry representatives in public outreach and damage prevention.
Chief Wade, speaking as LEPC chair, told the court the committee includes county and city partners and private industry and emphasized the safety rationale for calling 811 year-round.
The court approved the proclamation unanimously and invited LEPC members to accept a resolution and take a group photo.
