The Sudden Valley Community Association board approved a combined confidentiality and social‑media policy intended to protect sensitive association information and clarify expectations for staff who also are homeowners.
GM Michael explained the draft policy grew from work with a digital consulting firm and legal review. The policy includes confidentiality protections for account numbers, personal bank information and executive‑session materials, and it expressly states certain confidentiality obligations will survive separation of employment. Michael said union representatives and legal counsel reviewed portions of the policy language to avoid unnecessarily restricting free‑speech rights.
The policy also instructs employees who post on social media to identify whether they are speaking as homeowners rather than as association staff. Michael said the policy is intended to balance the association’s need to protect confidential information with employees’ rights to comment as private citizens. The board discussed overlap with existing harassment, bullying and discrimination rules and noted the policy will complement, not replace, federal employment rules cited in the existing employee handbook.
After a motion to approve the confidentiality and social‑media policy for employees the board voted; the meeting record shows the motion passed unanimously.
