Board approves change order for new elementary school doors and funds high-school cabling upgrade

The Warren County R‑III board approved two facilities items Thursday: a change order to meet an updated fire-code requirement for doors at the new elementary school and an estimate to add cabling and emergency call buttons at Warrenton High School.
Construction staff said the fire-code change requires doors that connect both sides of a firewall so that if one wall is compromised the door assembly remains secure. The board approved the change order, which the superintendent described as a modest-cost compliance item; the presenter cited about $14,000 for the door-related work and said change-order balances and totals will be tracked and reported to the board for transparency.
Separately, the board approved an estimate to add additional cabling and wall-mounted call buttons at the high school so classrooms can contact office staff immediately during emergencies. District staff said the work will be scheduled after school hours and during summer to limit classroom disruption, and the project was presented as part of a districtwide effort to standardize communications and bell systems across buildings.
Both items were approved by voice vote. The administration committed to include a running tally of change-order expenditures for the new elementary school in future construction reports.
