Groves adopts new city logo after multi-version review; staff to phase in changes

The Groves City Council approved a new official city logo and related seal and horizontal layouts at its Jan. 27, 2025, meeting following a presentation of several design iterations and staff recommendations.

City staff told council the current official logo originated in 1958 and that numerous informal versions have circulated; a rebranding was produced as part of a recent website redesign process. Revise (the contracted design firm) provided a set of color and black-and-white options, including a seal, a horizontal wordmark and alternate layouts. Staff said the chosen set preserves the city's existing color palette, introduces pecan-grove imagery to reflect local history and keeps the artwork simple so it reproduces well on uniforms, decals and small-format uses.

Council discussed the seal and two horizontal options. One council member said the curled lines in the preferred horizontal layout complement the curve of the leaf element; staff noted the seal retains a reference to the city's founding year in some versions and that final selections include both a round seal and alternate horizontal formats for different uses.

Staff said the design work was covered under the city's website contract and outlined a phased implementation plan: update stationery and decals as they are re-ordered, apply new decals to city vehicles as new or replacement vehicles arrive, and update signage and printed materials over the fiscal year. Council approved the logo by voice vote.

The city clerk will record the adopted artwork and provide guidance to departments on authorized logo use and color specifications.
