Canal Fulton updates public works projects: wastewater bid opening, water tower progress, planned alley vacation

City Engineer Glenn told the Canal Fulton City Council the city will hold a bid opening on Feb. 13 for an "airline" project at the wastewater treatment plant, a project that staff said has been planned for about three years.
Glenn also reported visible progress on the new water tower: the tower legs are installed and staff expect the tank to be set onto the legs this week, with painting to occur in spring when temperatures are warmer. The engineer said crews hope to finish that phase by Feb. 12.
Glenn previewed a planning item the city will bring to council in the coming months: vacation of several alleys, most notably Vermont Court, which runs parallel to the canal and divides property parcels. Staff described Vermont Court as a short alley that no longer serves access needs for multiple property owners; vacating it would consolidate property on both sides and could regularize existing sheds and fences that encroach on the alley.
The engineer said alley vacations require legislation and staff will bring the formal proposal forward in the next couple of months. No formal land-use decision or ordinance change occurred at the meeting; the report served as public notice of forthcoming items.
Separately, utilities staff reported the old generator at Lift Station F will be taken to a Mount Hope equipment auction; council approved a motion to send the decommissioned unit to auction during the meeting’s consent actions.
