Mount Pleasant council unanimously approves housekeeping amendment to 2024–25 budget

The Mount Pleasant City Council unanimously approved Ordinance 2025-01 on first consideration to amend the fiscal-year 2024–25 budget, allocating a set of smaller restricted funds that had not been assigned specific expense lines in the adopted budget.
“There are a few of the smaller, restricted funds that were missed in the main budget, and so we’re just allocating the money that we have set aside already reserved for these specific funds,” the city finance presenter told the council during discussion, describing the item as a bookkeeping adjustment rather than new spending.
Council member Hinton moved to approve the ordinance; the motion was seconded by Council member Hagman. The council clerk recorded a unanimous vote in favor.
City staff and the city manager clarified during discussion that the ordinance records both revenues and corresponding expenditures already incurred (for example, donations used for Shop with First Responders) and does not authorize additional spending. The city manager said the council will receive the monthly budget and revenue reports at the next meeting.
The ordinance passed without amendment. No public testimony was offered on the item during the council’s discussion.
