Council approves budget amendment to fund lift station at Cypress Industrial Park

Mount Pleasant City Council on a unanimous vote approved Ordinance 2025-6, amending the fiscal year 2025 budget to record a planned transfer of funds for a lift station project in the Cypress Industrial Park (referred to in the meeting as “Local Bounty”). Councilman Hageman moved to approve the ordinance; Councilman Corbell seconded the motion and the council voted in favor.

City staff said the budget change does not create new funds but records an internal transfer so the city can move money into the account that will be used to pay for construction of the lift station. Nathan (EDC director) told council the improvement is intended to serve remaining industrial lots in the Cypress Industrial Park and that the Economic Development Corporation has supported the project since mid-2023.

Council members asked for additional background on whether the lift station would provide benefits beyond the immediate industrial park. Nathan said the work was planned to address limitations of an older lift station and to support development of roughly 16 acres still available in the park.

The council’s vote recorded the motion by Councilman Hageman, second by Councilman Corbell, and the mayor pro tem announced the motion carried.

The approval documents will allow staff to proceed with transferring the identified funds and to begin contracting and construction steps according to the project schedule. Staff said they will return to council with any changes to scope or cost that require further action.
