Danville CCSD 118 OKs purchase of 3,558 student supply kits using Title I funds

The Danville CCSD 118 Board of Education voted to buy 3,558 school-supply kits and backpacks for the 2025–26 school year at a total cost of $174,765, to be paid from federal Title I funds.

Board members said the kits will be shipped to school buildings and ready for students on the first day of the 2025–26 school year. The district presented an average per-kit price of about $49 and said the purchase continues a districtwide effort to provide supplies to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

A board member recounted seeing a parent at a retail store who was visibly relieved upon learning the district provides school supplies, saying the reaction showed the purchase “was a good use of our Title I funds.” The board’s procurement presentation said principals had not requested additional supplies since the district expanded the program to K–12 the previous year.

The motion to approve the purchase passed unanimously in a roll-call vote.

The district staff did not provide additional line-item details for the kits in the public presentation; the agenda packet and the motion listed only the total cost, the kit count and the funding source as Title I. The board recorded no opposition and no amendments to the purchase motion.

Next steps: staff said the supplier will stage and deliver the kits to each school prior to the first day of the 2025–26 school year.
