Shanna Morel, director of alumni relations and annual giving at Northern Essex Community College (NECC), told the Haverhill City Council the college is holding its fourth annual Giving Day to raise money for NECC’s unrestricted fund, which the college uses to support students and programs.
Morel said the unrestricted fund recently enabled an internship stipend program to help students with financial barriers participate in internships. She invited councilors and residents to a kickoff event downtown at Gee’s Restaurant on the evening of April 2 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Gee’s is donating a percentage of sales that evening to the fund.
The college’s Giving Day is primarily online, Morel said, but the kickoff will allow local donors and alumni to gather and learn about ways contributions help students. She encouraged councilors to spread the word to community groups and employers who host interns.
This was presented as a community announcement; the council did not take formal action.
