Palmview council approves CDBG submission, camera attachments, K9 donation and other items

The Palmview City Council voted on several routine but programmatic items Tuesday, approving submission of CDBG projects to the Hidalgo County Urban County Program, authorizing pole attachments for anti-dumping cameras, accepting a donated canine from U.S. Border Patrol and approving geotechnical studies for city construction projects, among other actions.

The votes matter because they authorize grant submissions and city contracts that affect streets, public safety and planned capital projects.

Key outcomes: • UCP/CDBG work plan and annual action plan: Staff from the city’s consultant, GG4 Consulting, reported that Hidalgo County preliminarily approved two projects submitted for the urban county program: a $3,000 general-administration line item and a street-reconstruction project for East View Circle. The council formally approved action for GG4 to submit the city’s work plan and include Palmview in the Urban County application; staff said the city is requesting $252,774 for the East View Circle reconstruction but that the final HUD award could be lower and adjustments would be made then.
