Roger Haringa and other members noted the amendment appeared on the tracking document shortly before the meeting. Committee members agreed the change likely does not require an SBCC position at this time but said the council should be prepared to move quickly if the bill advances.
Roger said he will convene a short call with the International Code Council (ICC) to ask what outside resources and existing code or standard language ICC could contribute to any rapid work the council would need to do if the bill is adopted. Dustin noted that even if the legislation does not pass, interested parties could still file proposed language into the International Residential Code (IRC) petition window when that window opens.
The committee did not take formal action on the bill during the meeting; members flagged the issue for possible rapid follow-up and coordination with ICC and other stakeholders if SB 5552 proceeds.
