Resident tells commission transfer station, nearby trucking operations causing property damage and safety concerns

During the public-comment portion of the March 18 meeting, resident Chris Royce described repeated damage and safety problems on Perry Street near the county transfer station and an adjacent trucking operation he identified as Hess and Sons.
Royce said since moving to Perry Street two years ago he has replaced multiple tires after debris and vehicle activity on the road, described drivers as aggressive toward neighbors, and said trash from the transfer station routinely blows onto adjacent yards. He said he had contacted police multiple times and filed reports about threats and property damage.
Why it matters: Royce told the commission the activity creates a public-safety hazard on a narrow, dead-end street and degrades neighborhood quality of life. He said he had previously asked city staff for enforcement and that city crews once removed 10–12 bags of trash from his property.
Commission response: The mayor and other commissioners told Royce the codes director would address the matter and the police would increase enforcement. The codes director stated staff would have personnel visit the site the next day; the commission asked staff to coordinate with county officials because the transfer station is a county facility.
What’s next: The city’s codes director and police will follow up on nuisance and safety complaints; the commission and staff said they will contact the county regarding conditions at the transfer station if appropriate.
