Junction City commission approves ambulance fee increases effective April 1

The Junction City Commission on March 18 approved updates to the city’s ambulance fee schedule that will take effect April 1, 2025.
City staff presented the changes at the meeting, describing increases to emergent BLS and ALS charges and a mileage increase from $15 to $16. Staff said non-emergent charges were not raised. The presentation said rising costs for drugs, medical supplies and increased ALS treatments drove the proposed changes.
Why it matters: Commission and staff said the changes are intended to keep billing competitive with neighboring services and to ensure the emergency medical services (EMS) operation recovers costs for advanced treatments. Staff also said the additional revenue will be retained by the EMS budget to cover service costs.
During the discussion, commissioners asked about the frequency of schedule updates; staff said the city generally reviews ambulance fees about every two years and may need to move more often if market costs rise.
The commission moved and seconded the fee schedule change and carried the motion by voice vote.
What’s next: The fee change takes effect April 1, 2025. City staff said they will continue to monitor reimbursement and the regional billing environment and report back to the commission if further adjustments are needed.
