At its Feb. 20 meeting the Village of Greenfield council took several votes on ordinances and resolutions with limited debate.
Key outcomes
- Hazardous tree removal (Ordinance 4-20-25): Council authorized the city manager or designee to request bids for hazardous tree removal and declared an emergency; the council moved to adopt and the ordinance was recorded as adopted. During discussion staff referenced a tree report and said about 18 hazardous trees had been identified.
- America 250 designation and related grant support: The council voted to suspend the rules and adopt a resolution to become an America 250 (America250 Ohio) community. Kyle Lark (presenter) said the designation connects Greenfield to the statewide America 250 initiative and that it can make the village eligible for resources and grants. Kyle said he submitted a $5,000 grant application called “Greenfield’s Path to Freedom” to commemorate local abolitionist and Underground Railroad history and requested prompt council support to meet the application deadline.
- Minutes and routine first readings: Council approved minutes for the Jan. 8, Jan. 9 and Jan. 13 special council meetings. The council also received first readings for Ordinance 3-20-25 (amending the pay step schedule for non-police personnel) and the cemetery caretaker ordinance (Ordinance 2-20-25) as first readings; the cemetery ordinance was amended but held for second reading.
- Liquor permit request: A liquor license application was discussed; the council agreed to hold action pending review by the police chief and confirmation from Clerk Breakfield.
- Executive session motion: Council moved to adjourn into executive session pursuant to ORC section 121.22(G)(1) to consider the employment and compensation of a public employee.
Ending: Most items in this list were approved with little debate; several items (the cemetery ordinance and the pay step schedule) were kept for additional review and follow-up.
