Resident complaints prompt inspection and enforcement steps on parking, trash and a suspected multi-occupancy rental

Tim Fox of 4814 Greenlee Avenue told council he observed multiple adults, at least seven vehicles and what he described as commercial signage and commercial vehicles at 4813 Greenlee Avenue. Fox asked whether the property owner was paying taxes or the village’s $15 trash charge for multiple occupants and urged enforcement of sidewalk and grass parking restrictions.
Council members and staff said the village will investigate. Law Director Valerie and other officials confirmed ordinances limit the number of unrelated occupants in a single-family structure when used as a rental and that the village has a rental-registration and inspection process for such properties. Officials said they will have the building inspector and fire marshal check the property and that the tax office will review ownership and payment status.
Separately, council discussed enforcement of the ordinance prohibiting garbage and recycling cans left in the public right-of-way. The mayor and council members said the police department had been using a citation system to enforce violations and that increased tagging and citations may be needed, particularly where cans block sidewalks or create hazards for mobility-impaired residents. One council member suggested education letters for residents who appear unaware of the rule.
