Board approves temporary outdoor service for RenFest at Prueter Garden

The Alcohol Beverage Board of St. Mary's County approved a temporary extension of premises and an outdoor serving counter for a two-day Renaissance Festival at Prueter Garden scheduled for May 24–25, 2025.
Applicant Geraldine LaRue told the board the first RenFest held last year drew about 1,600 people in one day and that this year's event will expand to two days with temporary six-foot perimeter fencing, multiple emergency exits and an entrance adjusted based on lessons learned. LaRue said she consulted with the fire marshal and had a written review; she told the board there will be no open-flame cooking by additional vendors and that food and beverage sales will be handled through existing garden and on-site vendors.
Board members confirmed the applicant had obtained approvals from the fire marshal, the Town of Leonardtown, and the health department. Vice Chair Richard Watts moved to approve the temporary extension and outdoor serving counter; Member Barbara Hill seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Hours for the approved extension were stated as 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for both days. LaRue invited board members to attend the event.
