Gig Harbor Arts Commission approves $30,000 in Creative Endeavor grant recommendations

The Gig Harbor Arts Commission at a recent meeting voted to approve recommendations that would allocate $30,000 in Creative Endeavor grant funding and forward the package to the City Council for approval and contract preparation.

The recommendation, assembled from commissioner scores and discussion, would distribute grants across more than a dozen local arts organizations and events. The commission chair, Sonia Johnson, called for a formal motion to forward the recommendations to council: "Could we have a motion to approve these recommendations?" The motion was seconded and approved by the commission.

Why this matters: the Creative Endeavor grants provide locally targeted support for arts programming, youth music and arts education, exhibitions, and festivals in Gig Harbor. Commission members stressed using the limited city allocation to preserve programs that need the city funds to proceed while screening out applications that did not meet prior obligations.
