Chelsea panel approves Rivian’s request to title used vehicles at local service center

The Chelsea Licensing Commission approved a class 2 dealer license application from Rivian LLC at 25 Griffin Way to allow titling and registration of used Rivian vehicles from its Chelsea service center.
Bridal Rhee, representing Rivian, told commissioners the company already operates a Chelsea service center and holds a class 1 dealer license for new-vehicle registration and delivery. Rhee said the class 2 license would let Rivian extend its recently launched “Rivian pre‑owned” program to Massachusetts customers by enabling delivery and titling of used Rivian vehicles from the Chelsea location. She said there would be no on‑site retail showroom or sales of non‑Rivian vehicles.
Commissioners asked about towing versus driving vehicles into the facility and the nature of service work; Rhee said vehicles are currently towed in and the site performs warranty and other Rivian-specific mechanical work. Sergeant Chung reported “very limited call logs” at the property and noted only occasional calls about property damage.
A motion to approve the class 2 license passed by voice vote. The commission recorded no public opposition during the hearing.
