Mayor Lester M. Miller presented a proclamation honoring Susie McCullough on the occasion of her retirement after 46 years with libraries in Macon-Bibb County and the Middle Georgia Regional Library system.
The proclamation, presented during the commission meeting, cited McCullough's long career beginning in July 1979, her work as a children's librarian and branch manager, and academic credentials including a Bachelor of Arts in English and Education from Mercer University, a Master of Education with a concentration in early childhood education from Georgia College, and a Master of Librarianship from Emory University. The mayor also noted an alumni award from Stratford Academy in 2022 and McCullough's role on children's-literature committees and workshops.
"We are so fortunate to be the home of the Middle Georgia Regional Library," McCullough said after accepting the proclamation, and she encouraged residents to get or check their library cards. She told the commission she looked forward to a "new chapter" in retirement and thanked supporters in the audience.
The mayor encouraged attendees to visit local libraries in McCullough's honor and affixed the consolidated government's seal to the proclamation declaring March 2025 as "Susie McCullough Day."
