Edmonds approves one-year Trane chiller plant service renewal for Public Safety complex

Adam, staff member, presented a one-year service and maintenance agreement with Trane for the city’s chiller plant that serves Fire Station 17 and the adjoining Public Safety Complex and recommended forwarding the renewal to the council consent agenda on April 1.

Adam told the committee the chiller plant is unique because it is located at Fire Station 17 and provides chilled water for both the fire station and Public Safety facilities. “We’ve contracted with them, since the plant was new for just preventative maintenance services that we don't have the certification in house to perform,” Adam said, explaining Trane’s role in quarterly refrigerant, pump and compressor monitoring.

The staff recommended a one-year renewal because a pending RFA (referenced in the discussion) could change ownership or maintenance responsibilities; if the RFA is approved, responsibility could shift to the fire district. Committee members discussed how the interconnection between buildings complicates a clean service split and noted initial conversations with the fire district’s maintenance manager.
