Committee A recommends renewal of Edmonds building automation support agreement with ATS

Adam, staff member, described the building automation support agreement with ATS Automation as the city’s primary means to monitor and program building mechanical systems and recommended renewal to Committee A on April 1.

“This contract really covers the administration of those services, the maintenance and programming of the digital interface that we see, in the background that no one else ever really sees,” Adam said, describing how the Allerton control system lets staff remote-monitor multiple facilities and receive alarms when systems deviate from parameters.

Committee members asked questions about capabilities and cost. Council member Susan Payne asked whether the system can detect water leaks; Adam replied it does not include broad leak detection or cameras and said the city has investigated such monitoring for select buildings but found monthly costs could be prohibitive. The committee confirmed the contract amount presented is about $27,000 a year for five years, an increase of roughly $3,000 per year from the prior agreement.

Adam said the agreement reduces the need for on-site building engineers by allowing remote monitoring for facilities that operate outside regular business hours, such as the Public Safety Complex. Committee A recommended forwarding the agreement to the council consent agenda; the committee recorded assent and sent the item to consent.
