Staff reports: hires, marina security upgrades and downtown parking pressures noted

Staff announced the hiring of Matt Sprague as a permanent marina attendant after seasonal service, and congratulated Cole Barnes, the airport manager, on completing a master's degree in aeronautics with a sustainability specialty from Embry-Riddle. "He's going to use this education to create a more efficient and environmentally responsible facility," a staff speaker said.
Marina managers reported revenue gains at marinas from tariff increases and electric sales, and said they are installing cameras and signage to address security and vandalism. Staff said cameras with license-plate capture will be installed at Barney White intersection and the front entrance within weeks. "We're gonna have a good viewpoint... and it'll have license plate capabilities," staff said.
Commissioners and staff discussed waterfront construction and downtown parking. Staff said long-running downtown redevelopment and utility work will compress public access and create parking challenges in the coming multi-year construction period. The port noted that city permitting currently requires little or no off-street parking in some downtown zones, and commissioners urged continued coordination with city leaders about parking and public access as projects proceed.
Other operational notes included early-season yacht club and cruise activity at the marinas and outreach to business groups and legislators about airport feasibility study funding. Staff also reminded commissioners that construction and redevelopment activity near the marinas has already reduced some fuel sales volumes and created operational demands.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will continue to report on security improvements, construction coordination and waterfront communications.
