Summary
Representatives of the Fathoms/FABSA community festival introduced the two members of this year’s royalty court, described upcoming events — including an Easter egg hunt, a parade and a July 5 fireworks show — and asked for volunteers and sponsorships. At the start of the Port of Pemberton meeting on April 8, representatives of the local festival group presented members of the organization’s royalty court, outlined a summer events calendar and asked the community and commissioners for volunteer and financial support.
The presenter identified a series of upcoming events: an annual Easter egg hunt the Saturday before Easter, a parade planned for the 28th (referred to in the meeting as the “20 eighth”), and a fireworks show tentatively scheduled for July 5 because organizers said they could not secure a vendor for July 4. The group also noted an annual car show, vendor events and scholarship fundraising tied to pageant sponsorships. Staff said the fireworks plan was still going through approvals and fundraising.
The nut graf: the presenters emphasized that the festival is volunteer‑driven and that much of the programming is funded by local fundraising and sponsors; they said the organization does not receive direct city funding for those large events and is working to recruit additional board members, volunteers and sponsors. The group identified itself as a 501(c)(4) organization currently seeking 501(c)(3) status.
Two students introduced themselves as this year’s Queen Mia and Princess Amelia (both identified as South Kitsap High School seniors) and briefly described their volunteer platforms. The group sold $2 buttons during the meeting to raise scholarship funds and encouraged residents to follow the group’s events online.
Commissioners thanked the presenters for volunteer service. Staff and commissioners asked logistical questions about parade participation and vendor availability; presenters said future fireworks scheduling aims for a Saturday to ease vendor and audience turnout. The presenters asked for community members to volunteer and for businesses to sponsor events to keep programming free to the public.
