Public safety staff told the council that Officer David Mitchell has signed paperwork to retire and will leave the department effective May 30. Staff also said Officer Brian Williams, currently a part-time officer who has completed the field training officer (FTO) program, requested consideration for a conditional offer of full-time employment and that public safety recommended hiring him full time with an effective date of Monday, April 28.
A public safety representative told the council that Williams “has the recommended, skills, necessary skills and professionalism, and we would recommend him for that promotion to full time, effective April 28.” The record shows the recommendation but does not record a formal motion or a council vote on the hire.
Council members were asked whether there were questions; none were recorded on the transcript. The public safety representative closed the item with no additional business recorded.
If the council takes formal action in a later meeting, staff said they will return with the paperwork needed to effect the hire and the retirement.
