The move to executive session was made under the authority of Oregon Revised Statutes 192.660(2)(b) (complaints against staff) and 192.660(2)(f) (information exempt from public inspection), the staff member said, and added that "All matters discussed in executive session are to remain confidential." Representatives of the news media were allowed to attend, the staff member said. The staff member also stated that no decision would be made in executive session except in the limited circumstance of a student expulsion.
The staff member reminded the public that the board will continue to provide a virtual participation option for board members and district personnel and that public comment is available at select meetings both in person and virtually. The board agenda and packet, and a link to the district's YouTube channel for live streaming and recordings, are posted on the Corvallis School District website.
Board members Chris, Shauna and Bernie attended the meeting in person; Sammy attended virtually. The staff member said Therese would be late and that Judah was excused. The staff member called the recess to executive session after making the announcements.
The executive-session citations and the staff member's statement that confidentiality applies reflect the board's invocation of ORS 192.660(2)(b) and ORS 192.660(2)(f). The board did not state any public action or vote before recessing. A recording of the public portion of the meeting is typically posted to the district's YouTube channel the day after the meeting, the staff member said.
