Danville Area SD board approves routine consent items, tables land-use vote over deed language

The Danville Area School District Board of School Directors on April 9 approved a slate of routine consent items — including the minutes for March 5 and March 12, 2025; athletics and academic consent items; finance and bills for payment for March 7–April 3, 2025; personnel appointments; and a bus-driver list — and voted to table agenda item 6.3 about use of district-owned land until the borough provides written confirmation about the deed restriction.
Board members said the decision to table item 6.3 stemmed from language in the district—s existing purchase agreement and deed that could revert title to the borough if the property is used other than for athletics. The solicitor advised the board not to approve the land-use change contingently without a written statement from the borough. Board members said borough leaders are scheduled to meet next Wednesday and could provide minutes or a written approval that would permit a one-year farming arrangement without altering the deed.
The tabling preserves the district—s contractual protections while staff seek explicit borough confirmation. District staff said they also plan a brief voting meeting after a future Committee of the Whole session to consider the matter again for budget/timeline reasons and that the prospective farmer had indicated willingness to meet the proposed schedule.
In other action, the board approved personnel consent items that included the hiring of a new data services specialist, introduced to the board after the vote. The board approved athletics and activities consent items and academic consent items as presented; it approved finance consent items and bills for payment covering March 7 through April 3, 2025; and it approved the transportation bus-driver list for the 2025 school year pending receipt of required clearances and documentation (one board member abstained on that item).
Votes were recorded by roll call for each motion; most consent items passed unanimously among the board members present. The board also approved routine agenda items for school and property supplies (item 6.2) after formally tabling item 6.3. The meeting closed after board concerns and a brief discussion about forming an education foundation, which the board said will require future consideration.
The tabling preserves the district—s legal position while staff await written borough confirmation that a short-term farming use would not trigger deed reversion. The board did not adopt any change to the deed or land title at the meeting.
