The council received an update on the Area Planning Commission’s (APC) comprehensive-plan procurement and briefed next steps for funding the project.
Dustin reported the APC reviewed proposals and selected HWC after an initial scoring round. The APC’s stated goal is to keep total costs from exceeding $400,000; council discussion focused on a more practical target of about $350,000 while recognizing that additional community engagement options could raise the final price. Staff said $100,000 is already budgeted for the year and the timing for any supplemental appropriation will depend on the payment schedule negotiated with the consultant.
Why it matters: A new comprehensive plan and an associated thoroughfare plan guide long-range land-use decisions, transportation planning and capital investments in the county. Selecting a consultant and defining a budget are early but substantive steps in that multi-year process.
Ending: APC staff said they will refine the payment schedule and return with details if additional funding is needed beyond the current budgeted amount.
