Arts Commission seeks $20,000 for recurring special events after successful Space 67 launch

Sabrina, speaking for Norwalk’s Arts Commission on March 5, asked the Board of Estimate and Taxation to add a $20,000 special-events line to support in-city arts and cultural programming.
Sabrina said the commission’s first city‑sponsored event at Space 67 drew more than 100 people and the commission seeks flexibility to host monthly events that can include artists’ fees, modest hospitality, and educational programming. “We had over 100 people at Space 67 and because of the success of that event, the Arts Commission wants to host more events on a monthly basis,” she said. She added the commission spent about $1,000 on the initial event and used that as a baseline for the request.
BET members asked no substantive follow-up questions and the request remained under review as part of the department-by-department budget review.
If funded, the special-events line would allow the Arts Commission to pay artists and modest expenses for recurring cultural programming rather than relying exclusively on venues or unpaid contributions.
