Norwalk Fire Commission approves February minutes; reviews departmental reports

The Norwalk Fire Commission approved its Feb. 18 minutes, heard monthly budget and operations reports and received updates on station repairs, hiring and training at its March 18 meeting.
The Norwalk Fire Commission on March 18 approved the minutes of its Feb. 18 regular meeting and heard monthly reports from the fire chief, assistant chiefs, training and emergency management staff.
During the meeting, commissioners formally approved the prior meeting minutes. The motion passed with one abstention, which the commission recorded as part of the roll call.
The action came as Chief Gatto summarized the department’s platoon budget, reporting that eight months into the fiscal year salaries are at about 59.6 percent and overtime at about 62.1 percent, leaving overall spending at roughly 60.9 percent of budgeted levels. Chief Gatto said the department will continue to monitor overtime and salary accounts as the season grows busier.
Commissioners also received a series of operational and administrative updates including station repairs, apparatus deliveries, hiring plans and training schedules. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that carried; Commissioner Howard Dixon made the motion to adjourn.
Minutes approval and the adjournment motion were the only formal votes taken during the session.
