Committee approves March 2025 Medford City Council newsletter draft

At a meeting of the Medford City Council Resident Services and Public Engagement Committee, members voted to approve a draft of the March 2025 City Council newsletter after a brief discussion of edits and formatting.
The committee requested that hyperlinks be added to the newsletter to point to council budget requests and other documents, asked that language explaining the Salem Street Corridor District and the city’s “green score” be included, and directed formatting work to copyediting and staff. Council members also asked that past items mentioned in the newsletter—such as the March 25 votes on lead-pipe work and related water-main funding—be described precisely (for example, whether language should read “repair” or “repair and replace”).
Councilor Lozaro asked that the newsletter link council budget requests and individual councilor requests and suggested highlighting items proposed to the mayor. Jason Brett, participating in the meeting’s technology discussion, said some bullet and sub-bullet formatting may display oddly in the print layout and that he would adjust formatting when producing two-column output. Chair Lemmon said they would work on the final formatting as soon as possible.
Mr. Clerk called the roll on the approval motion. Councilor Kalyan recorded the motion to approve; the roll-call result recorded Councilor Callahan — yes; Councilor Lozaro — yes; Councilor Scarpelli — absent; Councilor Singh — yes; Chair Lemmon — yes. The motion carried with four affirmative votes and one absent.
Committee members agreed the newsletter can experiment with slightly different formats while keeping recurring elements identifiable. The committee chair said he will proceed with the formatting and circulating the final version.
The committee immediately moved on to other agenda items, including a preliminary discussion of a proposed modernization of the Human Rights Commission enabling ordinance and a resolution to design a public engagement plan for the FY 2026 budget.
