Nature advisory reports cleanup, new bluebird boxes and Earth Day plans at Oak Hills

Mary, representing the authority’s nature advisory group, told the board the group held its first cleanup and plans a path-rejuvenation event on Tuesday, March 25 at 9:30 a.m. She invited community volunteers including golfers and tennis users to help.
"We put one in the Great Lawn area, and we put the other one over by the tennis area," Mary said of two new bluebird boxes installed by volunteers. She said the boxes were donated and that other boxes on site had been cleaned out and were occupied by nests.
Mary said the nature advisory is coordinating with Audubon (Stefan Martin) on bluebird-box designs and is growing plants at Fodor Farm to use in spring plantings across the grounds. She also said the authority will have a table at the city’s Earth Day celebration on April 26 from about 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and that scouts will help with path work on May 3.
The nature advisory also attended a master tree-plan workshop and is drafting a long-range plan for signage, trail routing and plantings.
