Human Services committee to add H92 reporting language to S.36, delay H92 vote until next session

The committee chair told members they would not meet after the floor today and instead scheduled a committee meeting at 8:30 a.m. the following morning to hear from Commissioner Winters and Deputy Commissioner Gray about implementation of the governor's executive order and the General Assistance (GA) hotel program. The chair also said staff had not yet received requested information from the Department for Children and Families (DCF) and asked members to consult presentations posted on the committee website, including testimony from Lily Sojourner, for shelter locations.
The chair previewed a possible committee amendment to the education funding bill to replace stigmatizing language that labels students "high cost" with neutral categories such as "category A, B, C." She asked members to consider signing on; if the committee agrees the change will be offered as a House Human Services Committee amendment before third reading. She said the group will hold a straw poll to test committee support for making it a committee amendment.
Representative Donahue and other members asked procedural questions about timing and how members would receive draft language; the chair said Katie (committee staff) will circulate a revised version and members can print it from the committee web page once posted. The chair reiterated the plan to meet with staff after floor to complete S.36 markup and to vote on the bill on Tuesday.
No formal committee votes were recorded at the end of the update; the chair directed staff to circulate language, confirmed tomorrow's 8:30 a.m. meeting and said the committee will continue work on H92 in the next legislative session.
