North Pocono board clears contracts, data-privacy agreements, CTC budget and grants in routine votes

The North Pocono School District Board of Education approved a slate of routine motions at its April 9 meeting, including contracts, agreements required by state law and budget items, largely by unanimous or overwhelming votes.
The board approved a memorandum of understanding with local law-enforcement agencies required by the Safe Schools Act; the motion passed 8-0. The district's solicitor and administration said the MOU is renewed every two years and includes municipal departments and the state police barracks that interact with the district.
Other items approved by unanimous votes included expulsion agreements (7-0), summer 2025 community-education courses (7-0), personnel leaves and resignations (7-0), and multiple student placements and driver approvals (7-0).
The board authorized a five-year agreement with Active Internet Technologies doing business as Finalsite for website hosting, management and development; the administration described the contract as needed to expand capacity for online testing. That contract, which includes an annual increase capped near 6 percent, passed 7-0.
Trust and privacy matters moved forward when the board adopted the Pennsylvania Student Privacy Alliance's model data-privacy agreements for use with vendors until state legislation or future board action supersedes the documents; the motion passed 7-0. The board noted the agreements were reviewed by district solicitors and that the action allows the district to enter vendor privacy agreements for products handling student or staff data.
Financial and tax-related actions approved included accepting a repository tax-sale list from the Lackawanna County Tax Claim Bureau (7-0) and authorizing Partonoff Law Associates to proceed to sheriff sale on delinquent properties (7-0). The board also approved Resolution 3 of 2025 to apply to Lackawanna County for a $5,000 Community Reinvest grant to support an all-inclusive playground at Jefferson Elementary; trustees said the project would be funded by the Jefferson Elementary PTA and the resolution passed 7-0.
The board approved the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County's 2024-25 general operating budget of $10,342,000 and set North Pocono's share at $621,455, an increase of $55,341 from the prior year; that motion passed 7-0. The board approved routine financial reports and the payment of general and capital bills (7-0).
Several items were noted by the administration during the meeting: the district's community-education director is retiring, and the board recognized incoming director of special education Katrina Aiello who will transition from another district.
