The Sheridan County commissioners voted to approve a letter of support for the Sheridan Community Land Trust’s grant application to the Laura Jane Musser Fund for trail and bridge construction at the Big Goose Natural Area and adjacent Bridges property.
Brad Bauer, executive director of the Sheridan Community Land Trust, said the organization has set aside $200,000 toward the project and is seeking $35,000 from the Musser Fund for bridge and trail work on property about 3½ miles west of town. Bauer said the trust is still working with engineering consultants for a full estimate and that the requested $35,000 would supplement existing trust funds and other grants they will pursue.
Commissioners discussed whether the project could later require county funding; Bauer said the trust would continue to pursue other private and public grant sources and that the county’s role was to provide a letter of support, not direct funding. Commissioner Haswell moved to approve the letter of support; the motion was seconded and passed on a voice vote.
Ending: The chair signed the letter and the trust will include the county’s support in its grant application.
