The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency’s (PHEAA) PA School Services team provides statewide outreach including FAFSA workshops, financial-literacy presentations, classroom visits and one-on-one counseling, agency staff said during a recorded "Higher Education Access Corner" segment.
Diana, director of PHEAA’s PA School Services team, described a team of 13 higher education access partners who ‘‘are located all throughout the state of Pennsylvania’’ and who work with high schools, postsecondary schools and community organizations to run financial aid nights, FAFSA workshops and college fairs. "These are typically about an hour long presentation where we go over the financial aid process from A to Z," Diana said.
Staff said the services are free and can be customized for community events, classroom lessons or legislative offices. The team also produces free publications and runs online tools to help students plan and borrow responsibly, including EducationPlanner.org and My Smart Borrowing; they also mentioned a financial-literacy site described in the segment as "You Can Deal With It." PHEAA staff encouraged schools and families to request one-on-one appointments for help completing FAFSA forms.
Diana said access partners collaborate with legislators and community organizations to bring events to local areas. The team also supports college and career planning through classroom visits and professional financial aid conferences to keep materials current.
As an aside near the close of the segment, staff noted that Michael Burke, an access partner on PHEAA’s Eastern team, is retiring after 22 years. Presenters wished him well and said the agency will continue to serve communities across the state.
No formal agency actions or policy changes were announced in the segment; presenters described ongoing outreach services and directed listeners to PHEAA’s website for contact information and regional access-partner listings.
