Sheridan County likely to keep Red Grama Road closed past April 1; commissioners prepare to appoint Penrose Road viewers in May

Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez told the board on March 24 that recent storm damage has left Red Grama Road impassable and that the county will likely extend its closure beyond April 1.
"I've chatted with some of our deputies that looked. They said it's not passable at all, right now. So it'll probably be extended past April 1," Dominguez said, adding that he had discussed the situation with Road and Bridge leadership and planned to coordinate messaging if the closure is extended.
Commissioner Nancy Siddall (title used here as recorded) reminded the board that it agreed to appoint viewers for Penrose Road in May and said the board should prepare to make those appointments on May 1. "We did say that we're going to appoint the viewers for Penrose Road at May... I guess, in my view, the smart thing to do would be to ask Ken to maybe drop a list of people that he thought would be good," Siddall said.
Why it matters: Road closures affect public access and emergency response. Appointing viewers for a road (a statutorily prescribed process in many jurisdictions) starts a formal fact-finding procedure about road status and ownership change requests.
Next steps: Dominguez said he would coordinate with Road and Bridge and county attorney staff (Ken) and that the county will update the public if the Red Grama closure is extended; the Penrose Road viewer appointments are scheduled to be addressed in early May.
