A commissioner moved to approve the sign-up sheet; another commissioner proposed a small amendment to the third bullet point changing the wording to add the word “please,” so that the language requests rather than requires speakers to stay on topic.
“...I think with the idea of free speech, I don't think that we can really tell people what they can and cannot say, when they have their time up there. So I'd just like to add a please to the front of that so that it's it's asking instead of requiring,” the commissioner said during discussion.
The amendment was seconded and approved, then the board approved the sign-up sheet as amended by voice vote. Commissioners said the intent is to keep comments concise and on-topic to avoid lengthy off-topic discussion during meetings.
No public speakers opposed or offered further comment on the sign-up sheet during the meeting.
