Maldonado told the board the league has operated for about 17 years (except during COVID) and sometimes brings its own portable toilets and trash cans. “We need better soccer fields,” Maldonado said, describing regional participation and a plan for an annual October fundraiser to support families in need.
Board member John Alvarez moved to waive all facility fees for the request; the motion included a stipulation that the waiver would be reassessed if a district-determined emergency arose that required custodial or district response. The motion was seconded by Merced Zamora and carried unanimously (5–0). Board materials showed two kinds of entries on the facility-use application: a ratification for dates already used and approval for additional dates. District staff clarified the custodial fee would apply only if district custodial services were required.
Board members and staff asked clarifying questions about whether Maldonado’s group used district custodians (they did not), how opening and closing of gates were handled (the league opens and closes), and which specific line items the waiver would cover. The board directed staff to formalize the ratification and record the approved future dates.
