FedEx seeks short-term holdover at Sheridan County Airport; county reviewing two bids to operate self-service fueling

Robert Veil, Sheridan County Airport Manager, told the March 24 staff meeting that FedEx's lease at the county airport expires April 30 and that the company has asked to move to a short-term holdover status for several months while it vacates the premises.
"Agreement expires April 30. They are requesting to move into a holdover status, for a couple of months," Veil said. He said FedEx informed staff it expects to vacate no later than Sept. 1 and would continue to pay the usual lease rate while in holdover.
Veil also reported responses to a request for proposals for a self-service fueling operator at the airport. "Did receive 2 proposals, 1 from Bighorn Airways, 1 from Sheridan Piles 3 0 7. So currently reviewing them. Like to just go ahead and, move forward with 1 operator soon and and bring a operator agreement to you guys, here shortly," Veil said.
Why it matters: A holdover would preserve airport operations continuity while FedEx finalizes relocation plans; selecting a self-fuel operator affects general-aviation pilots and fuel access at the facility.
Next steps: Veil said staff will negotiate the holdover arrangement with FedEx and complete its review of operator proposals before bringing a recommended operator agreement to the commissioners for approval.
