Airport manager: Alpha realignment bids due April 22; passenger loads improving with SkyWest

Robert Gill, Sheridan County Airport manager, told the commission the county is advertising bids for construction to realign the Alpha taxiway, with a pre-bid meeting set for the following day and bid opening scheduled for April 22.
Gill said bids on recent airport projects have varied widely in the region and that the county will ‘‘be really interested to see how these bids come in.’’ He also reported SkyWest’s seasonal schedule change that began April 1 produced higher-than-expected load factors in early April; he said last year’s April average was 71% but that the first six days after April 1 this year averaged 85%.
Gill said the airport has taken delivery of a new scanner for security screening but staff are still training and the machine had some initial hiccups; the scanner may be operational soon.
No contract awards were made at the meeting; Gill said the county will evaluate bids after the April 22 opening.
