Harris County — The Harris County Board of Education heard an update on recruiting and staffing on April 10 that showed the district nearly complete for certified-teacher hires for the 2025–26 school year.
Miss Carlisle, who presented the human-resources update, said the district is at about a 99% fill rate for certified teacher positions and that HR staff had worked extensively — including during spring break — to interview and place candidates. She described targeted recruitment efforts that included a special-education open house that resulted in two new hires and internal career-pathway work that promoted paraprofessionals into classroom-teacher roles.
Carlisle cited specific school placements from recent outreach: special-education hires for Creekside and Lehi, and promoted para-to-teacher placements at New Mountain Hill Park Elementary and Mulberry Creek, among others. She said administrators and principals participated in targeted recruiting.
Board members asked whether Carlisle anticipated last-minute changes; she said staffing is dynamic and that the district might still have a small opening — she mentioned one likely special-education opening at Harris County High School — but expressed confidence the system is in strong shape going into the summer.
No formal actions were taken on staffing at the committee meeting.
