City staff reported progress in the search for a city fleet maintenance facility but provided no new decisions or site commitments.
Eric (staff) said staff continues to evaluate options, including potential purchases of residential or commercial properties near the existing maintenance facility and the MBX/Cherry Street parcel downtown. He said earlier work found wetlands and site layout constraints on some Enterprise Drive parcels and that moving fleet operations far from the current facility would add vehicle miles and maintenance costs.
Alder Neal said he does not favor using the Cherry Street parcel for fleet purposes because he would prefer to keep downtown parcels available for taxable redevelopment. Committee members asked staff to continue investigating options and report back; no motion or vote was taken.
Staff will continue discussions with the mayor and property owners and return to the committee with updated feasibility findings.
