Committee sets public hearing after Aspirus seeks vacation of short stretch of Pine Ridge Boulevard

The Infrastructure and Facilities Committee voted Thursday to set a public hearing on a proposal from Aspirus to vacate a short segment of Pine Ridge Boulevard to accommodate a hospital expansion.
Tom Renz of REI testified on behalf of Aspirus, saying the health system plans to expand parking for a future building addition and would present full plans at the public hearing. The committee’s action was limited to setting the initial resolution to hold a hearing; testimony and any decision on the vacation will occur at that later hearing.
“We’re interested in expanding the parking field for the hospital parking lot, for a future building addition,” Tom Renz said. Paul David and Barbara Burnett also attended representing Aspirus.
Alder Watson moved to set the hearing; Alder Neal seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Engineering staff explained the request covered a short west‑side strip of Pine Ridge Boulevard and confirmed that the public hearing is the formal forum for detailed testimony and plan presentation.
No final vacation decision or street‑vacation ordinance was made at Thursday’s meeting; the next step is a public hearing where Aspirus will present plans and neighbors may provide testimony.
