The Spalding County Board of Zoning Appeals elected Mr. Slaughter as chair and selected Adam as vice chair at its April 10, 2025, meeting in Meeting Room 108 of the Annex Building, 119 East Solomon Street, Griffin.
The leadership changes occurred after the board voted to amend the agenda to include elections. A board member nominated Mr. Slaughter for chair; the nomination received a second and the motion carried. The board later opened nominations for vice chair, nominated Adam, received a second and approved the nomination by voice vote.
The new chair acknowledged his inexperience in the role, saying, "This is my first night on the board and my first night in this position. So bear with me." The chair and vice chair will preside over future Board of Zoning Appeals meetings and hearings.
The meeting began with a staff member calling the session to order at 6 p.m. and noting the absence of Mr. Parks, a recently appointed member. The director welcomed the new board members during the report of the director, and board members exchanged brief remarks of welcome and thanks.
No formal contested votes or ordinance actions were taken during the election itself; the nominations and approvals were taken by voice vote on the record.
The board adjourned after completing the agenda and noted that public notices for postponed items will be updated when the next meeting date is finalized.
